BBF Supports Clean Water Access for Over 8,000 People in Northern Ghana

BBF has provided a grant to Hope for Ghana to fund a large-scale water access initiative in Northern Ghana. The project, focused on expanding and treating the Jarigu Dam, is BBF’s largest clean water initiative to date with Hope for Ghana and is expected to benefit more than 8,000 people across Jarigu and nearby villages.
The existing dam in Jarigu, relied upon by approximately 3,000 local residents and 5,000 others in surrounding communities, has long been an unreliable and unsafe water source. During the dry season, the dam often runs dry, and at other times, it contains contaminated water shared with animals—posing serious health risks due to waterborne diseases.

To address these challenges, BBF provided a grant to fund a two-phase project to expand and improve the dam. Phase one, which is now complete, involved dredging and widening the dam to increase its capacity and ensure it holds water throughout the year. This critical first step provides a more stable and sustainable water supply for the area.
Phase two will focus on water treatment and infrastructure to protect the water source. Plans include the installation of filtration and chlorination systems to make the water safe for drinking, fencing to prevent contamination by animals, and a separate livestock watering area. A hygienic water-fetching point will also be constructed for community use.
Dr. Steve Greene, Founder and CEO of Hope for Ghana, acknowledged the significance of BBF’s contribution:
“It takes a village to make a change in this world, and Hope for Ghana thanks the benevolence, the immense generosity of Brother’s Brother Foundation. The generosity without which this project could have never been started. So to Brother’s Brother Foundation, we thank you … as you change lives, as you transform the landscape here in Ghana.”
