Golden Harvest Food Bank in Georgia received a $20,000 grant from BBF to aid their disaster response efforts immediately following the storms. They recently provided an update on their efforts.
“It has been quite a month. Hurricane Helene continues to have a tremendous impact on the people that we serve. While our major centers like Aiken, Columbia County, and Richmond County mostly have power back, some of our rural counties, like Screven, are being told that power might not be restored until around Thanksgiving. The needs in these communities are just tremendous. Many families who lost power lost all their refrigerated and frozen food. In addition, significant home and property damage, along with the tragic loss of loved ones, has placed immense strain on these communities.
To respond to this need, Golden Harvest has rapidly transitioned our distribution network to get as much food as possible into these areas. Since the hurricane, we’ve distributed over 915,000 meals and 1.81 million servings of water. We are purchasing disaster relief boxes that can be sent directly to these at-risk communities. I want to personally thank BBF for standing with Golden Harvest Food Bank in this time of great need.”
BBF remains committed to helping communities recover from Hurricane Helene by working alongside partners to address immediate needs. The collaboration and dedication of everyone involved have been essential, and together, we’re making a tangible impact during this challenging period.
