Bringing Essential Care to Ethiopia

Last February, a team of 31 medical professionals from the Coptic Medical Association of North America (CMANA) traveled to Ethiopia, bringing much-needed healthcare services to communities with limited access to medical treatment. The team included specialists in internal medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, cardiology, optometry, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology, dentistry, and pharmacy—offering care across a wide range of medical needs.

Ethiopia, home to approximately 129 million people, faces significant healthcare challenges. In many rural areas, modern medical care is virtually nonexistent, and the country struggles with shortages of medical equipment, medications, and trained specialists. While Ethiopian medical schools continue to graduate general practitioners and a small number of specialists, the demand far exceeds the supply.

BBF supported the trip by providing essential medications for the treatment of migraines, arthritis, high blood pressure, and other common conditions. These medicines helped address immediate patient needs, ensuring that those who might otherwise go untreated received proper care.
